As you may know, the theme of the International Mountain Day 2006, which falls on December 11 this year, is "Managing Mountain Biodiversity for Better Lives."
This is an opportunity for us all to raise awareness about the need to manage mountain biodiversity in a sustainable manner, to highlight promising models, and to build partnerships at all levels to promote biodiversity management that will reduce poverty, improve livelihoods, and protect mountain environments for us all.
Keeping the above in mind, we the Mountain Forum bulletin team have decided that the theme of the next issue of the Mountain Forum Bulletin should likewise be "Managing Mountain Biodiversity for Better Lives".
We are, therefore, looking for:
1) Feature article(s) on any of the following:
- subjects related directly to mountain biodiversity; - links between land, flora and fauna, natural resources, human beings; - management of mountain biodiversity in protected areas; - sustainable development and poverty alleviation in mountain environments; - value of traditional and sustainable land use practices contributed by indigenous and local communities in preserving mountain biodiversity; - successful collaboration between mountain dwellers and communities living in areas adjacent to mountains; - the UN Convention on Biodiversity (UN CBD) (decision VII/27 on mountain biological diversity); (1000 - 1500 words)
2) Updates on your organisation, projects, or initiatives for the 'Member Initiative" section (600-800 words). If the initiative is linked to the theme of the International Mountain Day 2006, we would definitely like to hear from you!
3) Upcoming events (till July 2007!)
4) Review of a book on a topic related to "management of mountain biodiversity“. (400 words, including a digital image of the front cover of the book reviewed)
The deadline for submitting your contribution(s) is no later than November 30, 2006.
Please send your contributions to: bulletin@mtnforum.org
We look forward to sharing the next issue of the Mountain Forum Bulletin with you.
